The Mississauga Halton Primary Care Network (PCN) is pleased to invite infectious disease specialist Dr. Zain Chagla and family physician Dr. Anil Kumar Gupta to speak about treatments for COVID-19.

They will review what has worked well and what has not, monoclonal antibody (mAb) treatment now available in Ontario, and what therapies are in the pipeline. The PCN's chair, Dr. Sohal Goyal will also speak briefly about his experience to date at the first primary care-led COVID, Cold and Flu Care Clinic. A Q&A period will follow the presentations.

Speakers:

Dr. Chagla is an Associate Professor at McMaster University, He did his medicine training at Western University, infectious diseases at McMaster, and a diploma in tropical medcine from Tanzania and Uganda. He also has a masters in infectious diseases from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He is Co-medical Director of Infection Control at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton and a Consultant in Infection Control at Woodstock General Hospital. He is also the Medical Director of Canada’s first large-volume monoclonal antibody clinic, and has administered over 60 doses of monoclonal antibodies.

During the COVID-19 crisis, Dr Chagla has contributed to local, provincial and federal policy planning, and to several clinical trials on COVID-19 therapies. He has published works on COVID-19 epidemiology, testing and infection control.

Dr. Gupta is an energetic physician and researcher, leading studies in a number of different therapeutic areas. His site is actively recruiting for Moderna’s Covid-19 Paediatric Vaccination trial for children 6 months to 12 years old. He has recently lead-authored a paper, “Early Treatment for Covid-19 with SARS-CoV-2 Neutralizing Antibody Sotrovimab,” published in the New England Journal of Medicine October 2021. In addition, Dr. Gupta has served as a CMAC member for the Brampton Etobicoke Ontario Health Team.

When not caring for patients or interacting with his research team, he can be found in various rinks or baseball diamonds, coaching his sons’ hockey and baseball teams.
